Sustainability is not our marketing strategy. It is our only way of working.
At Ilanko Verdi, every decision — from the material we choose to the community we source from — is guided by one question: is this good for the earth, and good for the people who depend on it?
We do not use the word sustainable loosely. Our products are made from natural, biodegradable materials, harvested responsibly. They are crafted by women artisans in producer-owned enterprises in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. They are packaged without plastic. And they are built to last — because the most sustainable product is one that does not need to be replaced.
What sustainability means to us — in practice
Natural materials, always
Every product we export is made from bamboo, banana fiber, river grass, chumba, palm leaf, or other natural materials. No plastic. No synthetics. No exceptions.
Women-owned value chains
We source exclusively from women-led producer communities — enterprises where the artisans are not just workers, but owners. Their livelihood is the reason we exist.
Plastic-free packaging
Our products are packed and shipped in natural, biodegradable packaging. We are committed to eliminating plastic from every step of our supply chain — including the last mile.
Transparent sourcing
We believe our buyers have the right to know where their products come from. We are building a fully traceable supply chain — from the artisan's hands to your shelves.
Every material we use has a reason — and a story
Bamboo
Bamboo sequesters significantly more carbon than most trees and produces up to 35% more oxygen. It grows on degraded, uncultivable land that no food crop can use — and once planted, can be harvested annually for decades. Women farmers in Karnataka grow and harvest bamboo as a long-term livelihood, organized into producer-owned enterprises that give them control over their income and futures.
Banana Fiber
Banana bark is a by-product of every banana harvest — in most cases, it is simply burned. Our supply chain transforms this agricultural waste into rope, baskets, lamp shades, planters, and storage — strong, flexible, and fully biodegradable. Women producers in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka turn waste into income and independence.
River Grass and Chumba
Sustainably harvested from natural waterways using traditional methods practised for generations. These materials require no chemical processing, no industrial energy, and no virgin raw materials — just the skill of hands that know their craft deeply.
Palm Leaf
Palm leaf is gathered from naturally fallen leaves — the tree is never harmed. Woven by skilled artisans, it becomes décor, storage, and lifestyle products that are entirely compostable at end of life. Zero waste, by design.
Sustainability means nothing without the people inside it
We source from women-led producer enterprises in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. These are not contract workers. They are enterprise owners, trained artisans, and community leaders who shape the products, the quality, and the future of their own value chains.
Each enterprise runs on a collective ownership model — women are trained not just in craft, but in quality control, pricing, and enterprise management. This is what long-term economic resilience looks like in practice.
Packed with the same care as the products inside
We are committed to plastic free packaging for all our export supply chain. Our products are wrapped and shipped using natural, biodegradable materials such as kraft paper, jute twine, and recycled corrugated boxes.
For bulk export orders, we work with our logistics partners to consolidate shipments wherever possible and thus reduce the per unit carbon footprint across every consignment we ship to Europe, Latin America, and Japan.

We are at the beginning of our certification journey and we are committed to being fully transparent about where we are today — and where we are headed.
